Halloween 2007

Again this year, we took a lot of pictures of the Halloween decorations so, as with last year, I've made a multi-page spread for 2007. Click on the link at the bottom of each page to advance to the next. Halloween was pretty good again this year. It was yet another beautiful day for 31 October, though just a bit cooler that it was last year. It was a bright, sunny day but the temperature never quite made it to 70 degrees this year. It dropped to the low 60s by the time the kids started trick-or-treating and was down to the upper 50s by the time it was all over. The sky had some wispy clouds after it got dark but that didn't hurt the Halloween mood one bit. Hil had to work this year but got off a bit earlier than normal. Even so, I handled the first 45 minutes of so of trick-or-treating solo. As I mentioned last year or the year before, there are a lot of younger kids in the neighborhood and I think all of them came by the house at least once. As usual, at least one parent accompanied the younger kids on their route and I think that's the smart thing to do. All the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves. They were all very friendly and polite when coming to the door and I was impressed by that. |

All of the shots on this page were taken on Halloween afternoon, before it got dark. New this year is the witch figure to the right of the front door (I'll talk more about it with the close ups later).

This is a close shot of the right half of the grave yard. For the most part, it uses the same tombstones as last year with the addition of the large resin cross stone to the right of the ghoul. The ghoul is also new this year. He originally came in a pressed paper cage but it rained a couple days before Halloween and the cage was destroyed. Plan "B" was to stick an old broomstick in the ground behind the "Unknown" stone and prop him up on it. In the end, I think it was actually better this way than when it was in the cage.

This is the same ghoul that I had in the grave yard the last two years. The lantern in his hand has an LED light in it and it is powered by a solar panel and rechargeable batteries. There is a sensor on the back of the arm that turns it on after dark.

Here's the far left side of the grave yard. The tombstone was here last year (then it was behind the ghoul with the lantern) but the latex head and hands are new. They look OK but they're just thin material and would have been better if the latex was thicker or if the back was filled with something. I'm going to look into filling the backside with expanding foam for next year so they will keep their shape better.

This is the Witches coven. They're in the same place as last year. The house has a nice little area of "monkey grass" and a clump of Crepe Myrtle trees right on the other side of the sidewalk from the house and it makes a great area to put these figures. Just visible is the ghostly apparition. It has a motion sensor and when someone approaches, three purple LEDs above it light up, it begins to moan, and the head and hands start going up and down. I had an identical one for several years but it broke just at the end of Halloween last year. Luckily, I found a replacement at the local TARGET store.

Here's the other with and the little "Dracula" sitting in the tree.

This is a shot from the beginning of the "Haunted Sidewalk" though the lighted arch, and past the witches coven. The grave yard is just around the corner of the sidewalk out of the picture to the right. |
