Halloween 2008

Again this year, we a fair amount of pictures of the Halloween decorations so they will span more than one page for 2008.  Click on the link at the bottom of each page to advance to the next. Halloween was pretty again a nice day this year.  I was worried as the week leading up to Halloween was cold and rainy.  The day before was better but Mother Nature made a fantastic come-back on 31 October.  There was not a cloud ion the sky on Halloween day and the temperature in the sun was in the low 70s, though a bit of a wind made it feel slightly cooler when standing out in the open.  All in all, not a bad day at all for the last day of October.  We had the usual crowd of younger children, as always, accompanied by the parents and as the evening went on, older kids and teens began making their appearance.  As usual, all of the kids, both the younger ones and the older ones, were very polite and it seemed all had a great Halloween.

All of the shots on this page were taken on Halloween afternoon, before it got dark.

This is the ghost.  He's in the same spot as last year and he has a spotlight on him to make him stand out at night.  When I put him out several days ago, he had the same tombstone as last year as well.  Unfortunately, during the nasty weather leading up to Halloween, we had two days of very strong wind (40-50 mph gusts) along with the incessant rain and the styrofoam tombstone blew away to parts unknown. Below is another similar picture, taken from farther away to show the beautiful day it was.  Since he'd had some very chilly weather leading up to Halloween, you can see that the leaves on many of the trees are changing color already.

Below are some shots of the grave yard.  Since I think it was in the perfect place the last couple years, I put it there again this year. The grave yard fence (above) is new this year.  It's taller than the garden edging I'd used the last several years.  I got it from an Internet Halloween supplies store a couple weeks ago and got it at a very impressive sale price. The devil figure is new this year as in the tombstone he's holding onto. The little tombstone to the right of the guy clawing his way out of the ground is also new this year The ghoul coming out from behind the grave is also new this year.

I did something a little different this year with the grave yard theme.  I took the Lester Moore and Barry Dull tombstones and moved them down to the front of the yard near the sidewalk and made individual graves for them using the old grave yard fence that I was no longer using for the main grave yard.  I Put a line of electric candles around the Barry Dull plot and later n the evening put an electric pumpkin light down inside the Lester Moore plot.  I also got a couple bouquets of black silk flowers from the local Michaels Craft Store and put them in the plots.

I put the witches up in the same place as last year.  I like the look of them in the little isolated section of "Monkey Grass" on the other side of the sidewalk where they were last year and the year before so I put them back there again.  The greenish Styrofoam tombstone is new this year.

The witch on the broomstick hanging to the right of the witches hovel is also new this year.  I added a pair of yellow LED eyes to the skull.
